VZW MAARTEN

VZW Maarten was named after ex-Red Devil and Basseveld resident Maarten Martens.
Maarten started his career at KVVK Bassevelde where he was soon spotted by RSC Anderlecht and continued his education there. From that transfer and the friend match between KVVK Bassevelde and RSC Anderlecht that followed, the first “International Miniemen Tournament” was born, which would later be known as the U13Cup. It started with 8 teams, later it became 12 and now there have been 16 participants in the world famous U13Cup for several years now. The organization that has to manage the tournament is housed in a non-profit organization, the VZW Maarten. For many years Patrick Martens, father of, was the chairman of this organization, but due to health problems, he passed the torch a few years ago to John De Pauw, ex-football scout at Celtic FC and football expert par excellence. Meanwhile, John De Pauw has also stepped down, since 2025 Joeri Hertleer is the new chairman.
The chairman is assisted in his task by no fewer than 300 employees, a mix of professionals and volunteers, but above all people with a heart for the organization. That is the great asset of the U13Cup.

Always looking for helping hands!

As an association, we are always looking for employees. After all, there is a lot of logistical work to do in the days before and after the event and all helping hands are welcome. The tents and stands need to be erected and taken down, the grounds need to be dressed, etc.
Host families are always welcome too!

WHO DOES WHAT?

Members of the board

The board of the VZW Maarten consists of about 8 people. They ensure that everything is delegated to the right people in the right places.

Professionals

Such organization occasionally needs some professional knowledge. This means that, among other things, the catering, sound and image, the website and social media and the printing, are outsourced to professionals who have been around for years and know what they are doing.

Volunteers

The largest amount of employees are the volunteers who are deployed on all fronts. Help with the food stands, the drinks tent, the VIP tent, the toilets, set up and take down, dressing and clearing the grounds, serving meals,… The volunteers are the foundation on which the organization is based.

Host families

The host families who put the players to sleep and provide breakfast are an unmissable link in the chain of the organization. No event without host families!
